Resources for online learning & entertainment

During the Covid-19 crisis, when the schools and colleges are closed, the following resources might be useful for both pupils and parents.  There is a wide selection of tools for online learning and related entertainment.

 

CJ Fallon 

Schoolbooks publisher is now providing FREE access to its online books until the end of the school term. To access the books, visit http://my.cjfallon.ie/  and select student resources > online books. 

All their digital resources are located on the Quick Links page (top right hand corner on the home page. You can enjoy FREE access to the Rainbow Oral Language Programme from 3rd to 6th Class. You will find the online lessons, the fortnightly notes and the Teacher's Resource Book to guide you through the new curriculum there. Also available is the new Sounds Like Phonics programme (for Junior Infants to 2nd Class) also has a range of accompanying interactives that you can use FREE with your pupils here

 

Chatterpack

A list of free, online, boredom-busting resources! Offering choices in virtual tours, online learning, arts & culture, entertainment... For more visit the Chatterpack website.

 

Twinkl.ie

Created by teachers, ideal for home education, it has lots of appealing games, stories, worksheets, etc. It is offering a free month’s subscription (enter offer code: IRLTWINKLHELPS)

 

IrishHomework.ie

IrishHomework.ie is an online platform for flipped classroom learning.  Students learn the provided lessons at home and then practice is facilitated in class the following day with Role Play and other activities.  

More is available on their website has everything you need to find out more about this learning platform. Due to Covid-19 access will remain free until end of this academic year.

 

Khan Academy

Khan Academy is a nonprofit site that provides free video tutorials in maths and reading. More available at their website.

 

Storyberries.com

Storyberries.com is a free, online collection of easy-to-read and beautifully illustrated stories, comics and poems for kids. Find out more here.

 

Cúla4

Cúla4 is a free Irish app from TG4 aimed at two groups: Cúla4 na nÓg for under-sixes and Cúla4 for older children. The website has TV shows, games and creativity section. More available at their website.

 

Kahoot.com

Kahoot.com offers a huge selection existing games on any topic such as brain teasers, trivia of all sorts, news quizzes and science. See more here.

 

Smartycatgames

Smartycatgames is a website that can help children learn Irish and French in a fun and exciting manner. See more here.
